Finding Inspiration On Days You Feel Like Quitting

Updated: May 20

Hey there, fellow dreamers and achievers! Today, I want to get real with you about something that we all face at one point or another: those days when the weight of our ambitions feels heavier than usual, and the temptation to throw in the towel looms large. Yep, I'm talking about those moments when the journey toward our goals seems daunting, and the voice of doubt creeps in, whispering, "Maybe it's time to give up." But here's the thing – I've been there, and chances are, you have too. And let me tell you, finding inspiration on days when I feel like quitting has become somewhat of a superpower for me. I recently stuck a banner in my classroom which read "It's hard to defeat someone who never gives up." Every time I read it, the more I think: yeah that's so true. I feel like quitting from time to time, but I don't. There's something that keeps me going. In this blog post, I'm going to share some personal insights and strategies for tapping into a wellspring of inspiration when the going gets tough. Let's dive in and discover how to reignite our inner fire and keep pushing forward, one step at a time.

Acknowledge Your Feelings

It's okay to feel down or overwhelmed at times. Instead of self-criticism, acknowledge your emotions without judgment.

Reflect on Your Why

When the going gets tough, it's essential to reconnect with your why – the underlying reason or purpose that drives your actions and fuels your passion. I started this blog to tract my journey of personal change in mind, body and spirit after traumatic events in my life while hoping to inspire other women to make that lifestyle change also. By reconnecting with my why, I reignited my sense of purpose and motivation, reminding myself of the meaningful impact my efforts can have on my life and the lives of others.

Seek Support and Encouragement

During challenging times, it's crucial to lean on your support network for guidance, encouragement, and reassurance. Reach out to friends, family members, mentors, or colleagues who can offer a listening ear, perspective, or words of encouragement. Surround yourself with positive influences who believe in your potential and can help you see beyond your current struggles. If there is no one in your warm circle, join a support group with similar interests. For me, this represented booking an appointment with a life coach. Remember, you don't have to navigate difficult times alone – seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Reflect on Past Triumphs

Take a moment to remember past challenges you've overcome. Recognize that you possess the strength and resilience to face difficult situations. (I'm generally a private person and starting this blog was a triumph for me because it represented overcoming my fears).

Set Realistic Goals

Break your long-term goals into smaller, manageable steps. This can make the journey less overwhelming and help you stay inspired by celebrating small victories along the way.

Break Tasks into Manageable Steps

As a new blogger, I found myself suffering from information overload which at times actually slowed me down because I became confused and overwhelmed. I had to learn how to build my website from scratch, create blog posts and other digital content, email list, Pinterest Pins, navigate my social media, etc, etc. with absolutely no experience. I had to slow down, process this new information and create small manageable actions which I prioritized. I put dates next to them and cross them off as I accomplish them. My experience has taught me that when faced with a daunting task or overwhelming workload, it's easy to feel paralyzed by the enormity of the challenge. Break down your goals into smaller, more manageable steps or action items that you can tackle one at a time. Focus on making progress one step at a time, celebrating each small victory along the way. By breaking tasks into bite-sized chunks, you can regain a sense of control and momentum, making the journey toward your goals feel more manageable and achievable.

Visualize Success

Imagine the moment when you achieve your goals. Visualization can be a powerful tool to reignite your motivation. Maintain a clear vision of your goals and the outcomes you're striving to achieve, even in the face of adversity. Visualize success in vivid detail, imagining yourself overcoming obstacles, reaching milestones, and realizing your dreams. Use visualization techniques to stay focused and motivated, keeping your goals at the forefront of your mind and using them as a guiding light to navigate challenges and setbacks. Remember, your vision is the compass that points you in the direction of your dreams – stay focused, and keep moving forward.

Practise Self-Compassion

Self-compassion is the practice of treating oneself with the same kindness and understanding that we would offer to a close friend. It plays a pivotal role in finding inspiration, especially when the going gets tough.  Replace self-criticism with self-encouragement. Speak to yourself as you would to a friend in need of motivation.

Practise Self-Care

Engage in restorative activities that nurture your well-being, such as meditation, exercise, or spending time in nature. Self-care is a powerful source of inspiration. Be gentle with yourself, acknowledging your efforts and progress, even when things don't go as planned. Do activities that bring you joy. Remember, self-care isn't selfish – it's an essential component of resilience and well-being.

Learn from Setbacks

Instead of dwelling on failures, view them as opportunities for growth. Every setback can teach you valuable lessons that will inspire your future endeavors. Failure is an inevitable part of any journey toward success, and setbacks are bound to occur along the way. Instead of viewing failure as a sign of defeat, reframe it as a valuable learning opportunity and a stepping stone toward growth and improvement. Embrace failure as a chance to gather feedback, adjust your approach, and refine your strategies for success. Remember, every setback brings you one step closer to your goals, as long as you're willing to learn, adapt, and persevere.

Seek Inspiration from Various Sources

Inspiration can be found in unexpected places. By diversifying your sources of inspiration, you can infuse your life with fresh ideas and renewed motivation. Here are some sources of inspiration:

  1. Art and Creativity: Explore the world of art, literature, or music. Creative expressions can stir your soul and reignite your passion for your own pursuits.

  2. Nature and Exploration: Spend time in nature. The beauty and serenity of the natural world can inspire introspection and creativity.

  3. Personal Stories: Read or listen to stories of people who have overcome adversity. Hearing about their journeys can provide a dose of inspiration and a reminder that challenges are part of the human experience. Immerse yourself in narratives that resonate with your own experiences and remind you of the power of resilience and determination.

  4. Mentors and Role Models: Look up to individuals who have achieved what you aspire to. Their success stories can motivate you to push through challenging times.

  5. Travel and Cultural Exposure: Traveling or immersing yourself in different cultures can expand your horizons and inspire new ways of thinking.

Celebrate Progress

Acknowledge and celebrate small achievements along the way. This will help maintain a sense of accomplishment and motivation.

Practical Strategies for Finding Inspiration Now that we've explored the importance of resilience, self-compassion, and diverse sources of inspiration, let's delve into some practical strategies to help you find inspiration on those days when quitting seems tempting. 1. Journaling: Write down your thoughts, feelings, and aspirations. Journaling can help you gain clarity, process your emotions, and identify sources of inspiration. 2. Daily Affirmations: Create a list of positive affirmations that resonate with you. Repeat them daily to boost your self-esteem and maintain a positive mindset. 3. Vision Board: Create a vision board that showcases your goals, dreams, and aspirations. Display it prominently in your living space to remind you of what you're working toward. 4. Connect with Like-Minded Individuals: Join groups or communities that align with your interests and goals. Sharing your journey with others can provide valuable support and inspiration. 5. Retreat and Reflect: Take a break from your daily routine to reflect on your goals and recharge. Retreats, whether short or long, can provide clarity and inspiration. 6. Seek Professional Guidance: Consider seeking guidance from a coach or therapist. They can offer valuable insights and strategies for overcoming challenges and finding inspiration. 7. Experiment and Explore: Don't be afraid to try new things or explore new interests. Sometimes, stepping outside your comfort zone can lead to unexpected sources of inspiration. 8. Set Aside "Inspiration Time": Dedicate time each day or week to explore sources of inspiration, whether through reading, art, or nature. Make it a ritual. The Importance of Persistence: Keep Moving Forward In your pursuit of inspiration, remember that persistence is key. It's normal to have days when motivation wanes, and inspiration seems elusive. However, the act of persistently seeking inspiration, even when it's challenging, can lead to breakthroughs and renewed enthusiasm.

Finding inspiration on days when quitting seems like the easiest option is a journey in itself. It's a testament to your resilience, self-compassion, and determination to pursue your goals and dreams. Remember that inspiration can be found in the most unexpected places, and it often arises when you least expect it. As you navigate the ebb and flow of life's challenges, keep in mind that the pursuit of inspiration is not a destination but a lifelong journey. Embrace the process, be kind to yourself, and remain open to the myriad sources of inspiration that surround you. In doing so, you'll not only find the motivation to continue but also discover renewed purpose and passion in your endeavors.
